On April 30th, we headed west into Wyoming with Devil’s Tower as our destination. We drove straight there and parked in the long trailer parking area before setting out on foot to explore.

We hiked around the base of Devil’s Tower on two separate trails, doing the loop twice and covering about 9.5 kilometres altogether. It was another amazing location and one of those places that really makes you stop and appreciate the landscape around you.

After our hike, we headed to our campground for the night, Devil’s Tower View. It turned out to be exactly what we like in a campground—only seven sites, mostly older people, very quiet, and, best of all, a great view. After a busy day of exploring, it was the perfect place to settle in for the night. We even spent the evening watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind with Devils Tower out our front window.

The next morning, May 1st, we pulled out around 10:00 and headed back into South Dakota before turning north. The drive was, once again, pretty boring, with lots of barren fields stretching out in every direction. Every so often, though, we’d spot a small wild herd of antelope, which provided a welcome bit of wildlife to break up the long drive.
We continued north and eventually arrived at North Campground in Dickinson, North Dakota, around 3:30 in the afternoon. Once we were settled in, we worked out, cleaned the front window and added another couple of stickers to the trailer.
Another state behind us, and we were getting closer to home with every mile.
