We pulled out of Waterton Lakes National Park a little after 10:00 on May 10th, heading west toward British Columbia.
The drive to Cranbrook was beautiful, with great weather and spectacular mountain scenery all the way. Our first stop was at Frank Slide, where we also stopped for gas. From there we continued on to Fernie, where we picked up some groceries, grabbed a couple of McHappy Day Big Macs, and stopped at Canadian Tire to see if they could put a new tire on the rim of the damaged one. Unfortunately, they couldn’t.
We eventually arrived at the St. Eugene KOA around 3:30 in the afternoon, got the motorhome set up and spent the rest of the day relaxing.
The following day was sunny and warm, although it had been a long night. Our neighbours had been playing music until after midnight, and eventually we had to call and complain. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, trains seemed to be running at all hours of the night. Needless to say, it wasn’t the best night’s sleep.
We got out for a nice 50-kilometre bike ride, including a good little climb on the way out. The ride was well worth it, though, because the mountain landscape stretching all around us was stunning. It was nice to be back in British Columbia and surrounded by familiar mountain scenery.

After we got back, June worked out while I settled in with a book. After the noisy night before, a quiet afternoon was definitely welcome.
On May 12th, we started the day by getting the windshield chip repaired before pulling out around 10:30. Our first stop was for gas just outside the KOA, followed by a stop at Kal Tire to get the trailer tire replaced.
With that taken care of, we continued on to Castlegar. We arrived at Kootenay River RV Park around 2:00 and got set up in site 6, the same site we’d stayed in before. We unloaded the trailer and backed the motorhome into our site, getting everything settled for another stop along the way home.
We were getting closer to home with every stop now, and after nearly seven years on the road, it was starting to feel like the final stretch of this long journey.
